ORDONEZ LOPEZ, Eduardo Ernesto y PEREZ SANCHEZ, María Milagrosa. Green roofs and white roofs thermal performance comparison using IR techniques. Acta univ [online]. 2015, vol.25, n.5, pp.11-19. ISSN 2007-9621. https://doi.org/10.15174/au.2015.782.
This study evaluated the thermal performance of green roof and white roof systems in buildings with the honeycomb slab and self-supporting sheet in reinforced pre-stretched concrete roof system (HSSSRPC). Comparison based on the hypothesis that environmental related degradation in the performance of white roofs could lead to the green roofs been a better alternative for energy savings in buildings. In addition, indirect measurement of temperature through infrared sensors was also validated to avoid problems associated with the spatial thermal gradients present in the HSSSRPC system. Results show that the performance of white roofs is seriously affected by the degradation of its albedo. Observations show that green roofs have a better ability to reduce temporary fluctuations in temperature and to promote better conditions for thermal comfort into the building compared with white roofs.
