HERNANDEZ BAQUEIRO, Alberto. Características y contribuciones de las organizaciones civiles del VIH-SIDA en la ciudad de México. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2007, vol.15, n.30, pp.39-78. ISSN 0188-7653.
This paper shows the results of a survey applied to not-for-profit organizations working on HIV-AIDS in Mexico City. It is part of a larger research project on ethics, culture and action of not-for-profit organizations. The survey was conducted by e-mail, in face to face interviews and by telephone. Questions were designed to obtain two types of information: a) A basic profile of the organization including legal personality, age and size, and b) activities and services offered. Findings refer to organizations' and sector's size and their basic characteristics, and to the relation between these. In addition, the findings reveal information about staff and users of the organizations. The HIV-AIDS sector is mostly composed of micro-organizations, with an important volunteer (both men and women) component concentrated in major organizations, oriented to prevention and secondary services. There are no new organizations in recent years. The discussion proposes some explanations about this data and the development of the sector.
