PINTO-QUIJANO, Ángela Cristina; CASTIBLANCO-MORENO, Suelen Emilia y HERNANDEZ-PEREZ, Mauricio. Social leadership as a death sentence: the post-agreement in Colombia. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2022, vol.30, n.60, 00012. Epub 31-Mayo-2024. ISSN 0188-7653. https://doi.org/10.18504/pl3060-012-2022.
This paper analyzes the murder of social leaders in Colombia between November 2016 and June 2020 through a relational logit technique to identify factors associated with a greater probability of being a victim of murder due to social leadership exercise. The hypothesis holds that the killings are systematic and follow a pattern related to the armed conflict. The findings indicate that being a man, living in departments historically besieged by the armed conflict, defending indigenous or peasant causes, and belonging to a community action board are the factors associated with being victims of these homicides.
