Resumen

ADDIECHI, Florencia. En la tarea de erigir fronteras-muros: El caso de Estados Unidos. Polít. cult. [online]. 2005, n.23, pp.211-233. ISSN 0188-7742.

Many people claim that the United States should maintain the status quo as regards immigration: in other words, leaving things as they are is the best option for the country's economy. Because of that reasoning, political and academic circles in Mexico now believe that there are very scant possibilities of a migration agreement being signed, and certainly not in the aftermath of the 11 September 2001 attacks. This paper sets out to demonstrate that on the contrary, the United States does need to reach a bilateral agreement with Mexico and that this, instead of being good news for the country, poses a problem.

Palabras llave : Migration; immigration policy; bilateral agenda; United States; migration agreement.
