Resumen
MARTINEZ RANGEL, Rubí y REYES GARMENDIA, Ernesto Soto. El Consenso de Washington: la instauración de las políticas neoliberales en América Latina. Polít. cult. [online]. 2012, n.37, pp.35-64. ISSN 0188-7742.
The purpose of this work is to show the main characteristics of the Washington Consensus and the measures of economic policy that go along with it, and to explain how these measures were introduced in the economic life of Latin America. First of all, the article provides a historical vision that links the Bretton Woods Agreements and the Washington Consensus as well as the role played by the International Organizations for the economic development in the Latin American Region. This article also describes the situation and the economic conditions of the region before and after the Washington Consensus. This collaboration attempts to show how after 21 years, the Washington Consensus and its economic policies are currently in force, and that these policies are the most influential in the economies of many Latin American countries, because the implementation of these economic policies is a condition imposed by International Organizations to their member countries, especially when they are in need of loans. Finally, the article describes how these economic policies have caused an "economic rebellion" in many Latin American countries, which has generated an influential block in Latin America against the Washington Consensus.
