Resumen

POY, Lucas. Juan B. Justo y el socialismo argentino ante la Primera Guerra Mundial (1909-1915). Polít. cult. [online]. 2014, n.42, pp.155-181. ISSN 0188-7742.

This paper provides an analysis of the writings of Juan Bautista Justo, the main leader of Argentine socialism, on the question of war, in order to contribute to recent scholarship that has developed a more complex view of his thought, setting it against the background of the positions of the Second International. First, it will be argued that Justo's thought did not simply imitate European Socialists' analysis, although he certainly incorporated elements of their theory, but that his was an original intellectual operation, to be analyzed in the context of the peculiar and eclectic body of theory of the Argentine Socialist leadership. Second, the paper shows the changes this interpretation went through, from the statements in Justo's book Teoría y Práctica de la Historia, at the end of the decade of 1900, to the positions the Socialist Party leaders held in Parliament in early 1917, when they backed the severance of relations with Germany.
