Self-management is important for the generation of cooperative processes and to respond to not only local needs. In this work, community management of water for human consumption, carried out through social organization, figured in so-called community water committees in the Chapala Ciénega, Michoacán, Mexico is analyzed. One of the central questions addressed in this paper is: What answers have communities to water problems and what lessons allow us to address this problem? Community organization has knowledge and is able to, meet their need for water supply.
