The Editorial Committee of the Mexican Journal of Biomedical Engineering and their invited editor, Dr. José Alejandro Morales Valencia, are pleased to:

Call for papers for the Special Issue Vol. 40 No. 1: “Theoretical and Synthetic Biology”

Introduction

Biomedical engineering lies at the crossroads between hard sciences, engineering, and biomedicine. It includes the general mathematical modeling applied to molecular biology, which resulted in bioinformatics and computational biology a few decades ago. Since then, even more paradigms and methods foreign to biology have been explored, giving way to new theoretical approaches of the biomedical phenomena in fast evolving science fields, including Omics, Systems Biology, Control Biology, Neuroinformatics, and Biosemiotics. In time, many of such explorations converged in a not-so-mechanistic, but highly modular and interchangeable, set of biological elements (e.g., an ontology, a code, a sequence domain, a circuit interaction, a cell line) that can be designed, constructed or repurposed through Synthetic Biology for industrial, environmental and medical applications.

This special issue features research and reviews in Theoretical and Synthetic Biology, aimed at increasing the visibility of these areas for the Biomedical engineering professionals.

Terms

  1. This Call for Papers is intended for researchers that specialize in Theoretical Biology or Synthetic Biology, including Systems biology, Computational neurosciences, Biosemiotics, Code biology, Control biology, Bioengineering, Genome editing, and related fields.

  2. Contributing research and review papers should be formatted according to the RMIB template, available for download at http://rmib.com.mx/index.php/rmib/autores.

  3. All authors must present a full statement declaring that the submitted manuscript is original, has not been published before and is not currently being considered for publication elsewhere. RMIB author declaration template can be downloaded at http://rmib.com.mx/index.php/rmib/autores.

  4. Author guidelines and submission instructions are described in http://rmib.com.mx/index.php/rmib/about/submissions.

  5. The corresponding authors must submit their manuscripts through the Open Journal System platform at RMIB http://rmib.com.mx/index.php/rmib/index.
