SUAREZ, Alírica I. et al. Estudio fitoquímico de la corteza de Croton gossypiifolius colectada en Venezuela. Rev. latinoam. quím [online]. 2013, vol.41, n.3, pp.161-170. ISSN 0370-5943.
Croton gossypiifolius Vahl is a species of the Croton genus (Euphorbiaceae), which is among those known as dragon's blood due to the viscous red sap derived from its bark, widely used in traditional medicine in Latin America. As a result of a phyto-chemical study of the organic extracts obtained from the bark, three diterpenes with ent-kaurene structure were isolated: ent-kaurenoic acid (1), grandiflorenic acid (2), ent-15p-β-cinnamoiloxy-kaurenoic acid (3), one 3,4-seco-ent-kaurene diterpene known as 7-deoxo-geayine (4), the flavonoid quercitrine (5) and a series of fatty acids where palmitic proved to be the major one. These compounds were identified based on spectroscopic analysis of 1D and 2D NMR and mass spectrometry. All of them are reported for the first time in this species.
