BAFFIONI, Carmela. Dante and Arabic thought: Philosophy and Travels to the Other World of East and West. Hist. graf [online]. 2024, n.63, pp.45-84. Epub 21-Jun-2024. ISSN 1405-0927. https://doi.org/10.48102/hyg.vi63.522.
After a historical evaluation of the theses of the renowned Spanish Arabist Miguel Asín Palacios, the study examines the Arabic concept of miʿrāj clarifying its points of difference with Dante’s ‘journey’. It then takes as an example a modern reworking of the prophetic miʿrāj, that of Mohammad Iqbal’s poem, Jāvīd nāme. The question of the relationship between Dante and the Arab world is then considered in the two interrelated fields of religion and philosophy of Greek origin (falsafa).
