MARTINEZ MORENO, D.; REYES MATAMOROS, J.; LOPEZ PEREZ, A. L.  y  BASURTO PENA, F.. Relative importance of fruits and vegetables commercialized in the Izúcar de Matamoros market, Puebla, Mexico. Polibotánica [online]. 2021, n.51, pp.229-248.  Epub 06-Mayo-2021. ISSN 1405-2768.  https://doi.org/10.18387/polibotanica.51.15.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the importance value of the edible plants (fruits and vegetables) that are offered in the "Revolution" market in Izúcar de Matamoros, Puebla, Mexico. The study was carried out with visits to the market where the edible plants were registered and the number of stalls that make up the basic structure of the market was counted, as well as the edible species that are commercialized in the premises during the year. These data were used to estimate its relative importance value. The data recorded in interviews with the merchants were the common name, place of origin and handling. In the market, 253 stalls of fruit and vegetable were listed, where 38 families, 78 genera and 101 species, five varieties and three subspecies were registered. The families with the highest number of species were Fabaceae, Rosaceae y Solanaceae. Of the species offered in the market, 89 are cultivated and very few are harvested, tolerated or promoted. Most of the species offered in the market come from the Puebla and San Salvador Huixcolotla supply centers, as well as the States of Mexico, Morelos, Oaxaca, Puebla and Veracruz. In relation to relative importance, of the 187 ethnotaxa identified in the market, 104 fruits and 58 vegetables make up the group (0.1-9.9%), seven fruits and 13 vegetables the group (10-19.9%), one fruit and five vegetables the group (20-29.9%), and only the white onion the group (40-50%).
