The evaluation of forest restoration projects due to their importance is usually carried out in the long term with intermediate evaluations, which is why new methodologies are required that require reducing evaluation times in the field using drones. The objective of this work was to test the usefulness of a system carried by drones for the monitoring of a forest plantation. The field evaluation of survival and vigor status of 18,520 plants was carried out, recording the location, species, survival (V = alive, M = dead) and vigor of the plant (M = Bad, R = Regular and B = Good). It was determined that the average NDVI values for dead plants were 0.266 ± 0.053 and live plants were 0.482 ± 0.105, where a global accuracy of 57.72% was obtained. For vigor, a global accuracy of 43.79% was obtained with the central value of the NDVI, the average for bad vigor was 0.226 ± 0.054, for regular vigor 0.365 ± 0.009 and, finally, for good vigor 0.506 ± 0.01. It was concluded that the multispectral sensor carried by drone has the potential to be used to evaluate forest plantations of mixed species of the Tamaulipas thorny scrub.
