LOPEZ-DONCEL, Rubén et al. Geologic hazards for the historical heritage. Examples in downtown San Luis Potosí. Bol. Soc. Geol. Mex [online]. 2006, vol.58, n.2, pp.259-263. ISSN 1405-3322. https://doi.org/10.18268/bsgm2006v58n2a9.
Downtown San Luis Potosí contains buildings of great historic value, which have been recently affected by cracking and subsidence. The most affected buildings are the Museo de la Máscara, the Museo Regional and the Iglesia del Espíritu Santo. These cracks damaged the structure of the buildings, as well as the fresh water and drainage pipe systems, and adjoining buildings. The characteristics of cracking allow to suppose a direct influence of the regional subsidence caused by overexploitation of the aquifer, associated with a differential subsidence of the surface driven by old geological faults within bedrocks.
