MEJIA-OCHOA, William. Almost two centuries of Colombian migration to the United States. Pap. poblac [online]. 2018, vol.24, n.98, pp.65-101. ISSN 2448-7147. https://doi.org/10.22185/24487147.2018.98.36.
This article presents the longest-term analysis of the Colombian migration to the US that has been done so far. For this purpose, the paper uses all the censuses and versions of the American Community Survey for which there are microdata, as well as all the annual reports on US immigration records. The paper presents a periodization from 1850 to 2015, which identifies two major phases, in addition to a transition one around the 1950s. The analysis made includes the comparison of characteristics and basic conditions of the migrants’ stocks between 1910 and 2016. The paper gives also some methodological annotations on the data usage. It proposes simple methods that can be useful for the study of other groups with the same data sources.
