Mexico has made considerable advances to abolish infant mortality over the past few decades, however it is still insufficient and faces important challenges ahead. This pinpoints the necessity to establish better strategies to improve the care during pregnancy, birth and postpartum period and the importance of addressing social and economic deficits, specifically in federal entities that regularly entertain the highestrate as an essential condition for Mexico to reach an infant mortality rate of less than 10 deceased children for each thousand live births. It is a priority to consider an increment in the public health expenditure. The importance of public health programs and their appropriate finances are highlighted due to compensatory effects that have been proven during the most difficult times of the public finances.
