HERRERA VARELA, Bertha y SILAS CASILLAS, Juan Carlos. One type of alternative education and the role of educators as “transforming agents” of at-risk youngster. Sinéctica [online]. 2017, n.49. ISSN 2007-7033.
The text comes from a doctoral research carried out in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. It analyzes the relationships that support learning of a group of at-risk young participants in a non-formal education program. It highlights the role of the educator as a transformative agent in the life of young people. Relations and the school climate are fundamental in the construction of learning and in the coexistence. Through the hermeneutic-interpretative method, we explored the complexity of the world of youth and its meanings. Key elements were grouped in analytical categories. Two deal with the role of the educator and one that shows the process of constructing the relationship. The elements related to educators are: Their role as constructors of generative relationships in environments labeled as “tense calm” and the construction of the educator as a friend. The third element deals with the finding of two stages in the building of positive relationships aimed at learning relationship between educators and young people, the first being a barrier or mistrust. The second stage is opening, the bonds tighten, friendship arises and relationships are generative and constructive.
