BARRON, Luis. La transición a la democracia en México con perspectiva histórica. Polít. gob [online]. 2006, vol.13, n.1, pp.175-190. ISSN 1665-2037.
The discussion about Mexican history, since the middle of the 19th century until the beginning of the 21st, contributes to the debate about the causes of the beginning of the transition towards democracy and the consolidation of democratic institutions in Mexico. The main cause of the beginning of the transition was not the economic reform, nor free trade or globalization; nor is the consolidation of democracy an inevitable outcome of this transition, even though the conditions for its consolidation are present. In order to better understand the beginning of the transition towards democracy in Mexico, it is necessary to analyze why the past transitions failed, and which is the actual context that makes this transition completely different from the former ones.
