ARREDONDO VELAZQUEZ, Melina; SALDIVAR MORENO, Antonio y LIMON AGUIRRE, Fernando. Educational strategies to approach environmental topics. Experiences in primary schools in Chiapas. Innov. educ. (Méx. DF) [online]. 2018, vol.18, n.76, pp.13-37. ISSN 1665-2673.
This paper analyzes the strategies used in the processes of Environmental Education in four primary schools in the state of Chiapas, Mexico, and identifies the way they do or do not incorporate the cultural and environmental context, as well as the daily activities of the students. Using academic ethnography and the hermeneutic-dialectic method of constructionism, we conclude that since the strategies presented in official text books are not sufficient, professors and other figures initiate extracurricular activities in daily practices that encourage the knowledge, conservation, appropriation and appreciation of nature. It was demonstrated that the consideration of the environmental and cultural context, as well as the activities outside of the classroom that put the students in direct contact with elements of nature, are the most useful strategies for developing higher levels of motivation, articulation, meaning and interest in the students with regard to environmental topics.
