GARCIA-HUIDOBRO MUNITA, Rosario. Artist-teachers who learn to teach. Creating pedagogic spaces and overcoming duality. Innov. educ. (Méx. DF) [online]. 2018, vol.18, n.77, pp.39-56. ISSN 1665-2673.
This paper presents the experience of future visual arts professors in the program of Arts Pedagogy at the Silva Henríquez Catholic University of Chile-particularly the experience of the Creative Workshop. The purpose is to reflect on the training that these artistteachers receive and how they negotiate the conflicts in the relationship between art and education. In the course described, the students developed both their artistic work and their line of creative research in order to learn about the arts and their future teaching activities. The paper demonstrates how the students learn that teaching arts is not separate from the artistic experience, since they take their personal interests into account and consider them relevant in the classroom. This passage between their artistic and teaching experiences shapes them in a general critical and political sense.
