PEREZ RUIZ, Maya Lorena. Young Woman Maya in Yaxcabá, Yucatan. LiminaR [online]. 2017, vol.15, n.1, pp.68-81. ISSN 2007-8900. https://doi.org/10.2536/liminar.v15i1.495.
The subject of this article is what does being a woman and being young mean in Yucatec Mayan culture in Mexico. Testimonies of high school girls from the village of Yaxcabá are presented to show how these girls define their role as young women within their culture. Their perceptions and future projects, often in conflict with those of their elders, are part of a process of transformation of societal values and practice in this Mayan region.
