Resumen

MUNOZ GONZALEZ, Aehécatl. From space to place and environmental justice: A proposal for an ecocritical reading of “Nos han dado la tierra” [“They’ve given us the land”] by Juan Rulfo. LiminaR [online]. 2022, vol.20, n.1, e890.  Epub 12-Sep-2022. ISSN 2007-8900.  https://doi.org/10.29043/liminar.v20i1.890.

Latin American literary studies have not delved deeply into the relationship between literature and the environment. Thus, this article undertakes an ecocritical reading of Juan Rulfo’s short story “They’ve given us the land”. Studies on this short story focus, in general, on narratology; although we also discuss this aspect by analyzing the spatial dimension, we do so while exploring ecocriticism’s distinction of the terms space and place. In addition, we examine environmental justice, in the belief that this short story underscores the fact that human culture is connected to the physical world.

Palabras llave : ecocriticism; space; place; environment; ecology; Mexican literature.
