BOGUS, Lucia y PASTERNAK, Suzana. Social map of the metropolitan region of São Paulo: spatial inequalities. Andamios [online]. 2019, vol.16, n.39, pp.151-175. ISSN 2594-1917. https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v16i39.678.
The article analyzes the evolution of the social structure of the metropolitan region of São Paulo between 1980 and 2010, relating it to the observed changes in the socio-spatial structure of the great metropolis. It aims to reflect on the existence of a "new pattern of urbanization" resulting from productive restructuring, which has increased the social structure's duality and has increased the precariousness of labor relations, urban poverty and spatial segregation. The central thesis is that the historical core-periphery model, characterized by the geographical and social distance between classes, still organizes the metropolitan space of São Paulo, marked by territorial dispersion, with diffuse limits and polycentric structure, like other Latin American metropolises.
