ALVAREZ GONZALEZ, Fernando y LICEAGA REYES, Rodrigo. Ameloblastic fibro-odontoma: literature review and case report. Rev. Odont. Mex [online]. 2009, vol.13, n.2, pp.122-125. ISSN 1870-199X. https://doi.org/10.22201/fo.1870199xp.2009.13.2.15612.
The ameloblastic fibro-odontoma (AFO) is a rare odontogenic tumor, defined as a neoplastic lesion by some authors and as a hamartomatous lesion by others, according to its clinical and his-tological characteristics it is considered a mixed tumor. Controversy exists among several authors regarding its nature, being for some, an intermediate stage of a group of lesions such as ameloblastic fibroma or a complex immature odontoma, however the current opinion defines it as a separate and benign entity. The treatment for this kind of lesions has been conservative, a simple enucleation of the lesion. The case reported in this article is considered relevant because of the size of the lesion. Excellent clinical results were observed one year later with the described treatment. It is recommended to monitor the patient after treatment although the low rate of recurrence of this type of lesion.
