LEON-DUARTE, Gustavo Adolfo. Essentialist Criticism in U.S. Interdisciplinary Studies. On the Integration of Common Ground in Interdisciplinary Research. Norteamérica [online]. 2022, vol.17, n.1, pp.35-60. Epub 22-Nov-2022. ISSN 2448-7228. https://doi.org/10.22201/cisan.24487228e.2022.1.509.
A review of current bibliography about U.S. interdisciplinary studies indicates that the notions of common ground and integration, as ontological keys to the interdisciplinary, are generating a long, dense epistemological dispute between two academic fronts. On the one hand, some take the integrationist approach, and, on the other hand are the defenders of the generalist application process. Considering both positions, this article analyzes some of the most developed critical formulations about the role of common ground and the integration of the implementation of the interdisciplinary perspective. First, the author analyzes the key narratives that have historically been the foundation of the U.S. integrationist tradition. He concludes by assessing the central metatheoretical suppositions of both approaches.
