Resumen

ROMANO, Silvina María. Brazil, Argentina and the regional integration process during the 60's in the context of the relationship with the United States. CONfines relacion. internaci. ciencia política [online]. 2008, vol.4, n.8, pp.31-46. ISSN 1870-3569.

The following article deals with the relationship between Argentina and Brazil and the role that each country performed in the context of the regional integration process, which was institutionalized in the Latin-American Free Trade Association (ALALC, Asociación Lationamericana de Libre Comercio, 1960), considering the influence of the United States' government as a hegemonic power in the region. The historical tensions between Brazil and Argentina did not vanish with the constitution of the ALALC. Furthermore, they tended to increase due to the establishment of military governments in both countries during the 60's. We will also expose the United States' negative attitude towards this "alliance" between these crucial countries of the Southern Cone, considering the "autonomist" tendencies of both presidents.

Palabras llave : Inter-American relationships; Latin American integration; American foreign policy; ALALC.
