In the post-Cold War, various conflicts provoked humanitarian catastrophes and threatened international peace. International society responded through different forms of humanitarian interventions that questioned sovereignty and the principle of nonintervention, fundamental pillars of the international order. This article identifies and characterizes the different humanitarian responses of international society: Peace Operations, unilateral interventions, and the Responsibility to Protect (RtoP). It also examines how Latin American countries position themselves in front of these actions and the RtoP, analyzing whether these countries have reached minimal agreements, and whether they present a common position within the United Nations.
