VALENCIA HUERTA, Octavio y QUIROZ CASTRO, Oscar. Hinchey stage more frequently found in patients at the Hospital Ángeles Pedregal. Acta méd. Grupo Ángeles [online]. 2016, vol.14, n.2, pp.63-68. Epub 30-Ago-2021. ISSN 1870-7203.
Diverticulitis is a common cause of abdominal pain in the emergency room. The term "diverticulitis" indicates inflammation of a diverticulum or diverticula. Ultrasonography and computed tomography (CT) studies are used in imaging diagnosis.
Objective:
To describe the complicated diverticulitis, Hinchey stages and identify the most frequent stage.
Material and Methods:
A retrospective study from June 2013 to May 2014 was conducted, included 84 patients between 20 and 86 years old from the Emergency Department with diagnosis of abdominal pain. CT scan on simple, contrasted phase and colo-tomography with a Siemens unit with 64 phase detectors were performed.
Results:
The most frequent stage was IA, the predominant reason for the study was diffuse abdominal pain, being the simple and contrasted IV CT scan study the more requested, the most affected portion of the colon was the sigmoid.
Discussion:
One of the causes of frequent abdominal pain in the left iliac fossa is diverticular disease, whose complications threaten the patient’s life, so that an adequate exploration and the use of CT as a method of choice avoids the delay of diagnosis and treatment.
Conclusion:
The simple or contrasted CT scan helped diagnosing acute inflammatory processes being the study of choice.
