The Rufous-backed Robin (Turdus rufopalliatus) is an endemic species to western Mexico. Since the middle of the last century, it was recorded out of its known distribution, mainly in southern United States and in cities and natural areas of central and central western Mexico, in Mexico City and the states of Oaxaca, Puebla, Tlaxcala, Mexico, San Luis Potosi, Aguascalientes, Guanajuato and Baja California Sur. As a result of a study of the avifauna in 27 wooded areas of Queretaro City carried out in July and August 2009, we report the presence and reproduction of the Rufous-backed Robin for this locality. The largest numbers of Rufous-backed Robins were observed in zones with a high tree cover and in trees taller than 10 m. In three zones, five nests were observed, three of which were active. Adult robins made multiple visits to the nest in which food was carried. In addition, two nestlings were observed in two nests. In two zones we registered juveniles. Our observations suggest that the population of the Rufous-backed Robin is at the initial stages of establishment in Queretaro City.
