The Pacific Loon (Gavia pacifica), is a species of Holarctic distribution with affinity to coastal aquatic environments and lowlands throughout its winter migration was registered of unusual form on the Sierra de San Pedro Mártir National Park, Baja California, Mexico (elevation of 2 428 m), during a snow storm in November 2015. Five individuals were rescued alive but died days later. These specimens were stuffed (taxidermy) and deposited in the Bird Collection of the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC). Although there are previous records of this species for coastal localities and lowlands at less than 637 meters altitude in the Baja California peninsula, no specimen had previously been collected in a high mountain coniferous forest.
