Negative impacts on birds caused by the operation of wind farms have been documented worldwide. These impacts include avian mortality due to collision with wind turbines, species displacement because of habitat modification, barrier effect and habitat loss. However, in Mexico there is scarce published information about these negative effects. In this study, we report incidental mortality of three passerine bird species (House Finch, Haemorhous mexicanus; Warbling Vireo, Vireo gilvus; and Rock Wren, Salpinctes obsoletus), at a wind farm located in La Rumorosa, Baja California, Mexico. Carcasses of these species were located during a monitoring program of wildlife mortality from August 2015 to August 2016. Post mortem analysis of two of the four specimens found, determined that the cause of mortality was related to collision with the wind turbines. These findings represent the first reports of mortality of passerine birds at wind farms in Mexico.
