Resumen

HERNANDEZ MORENO, María Magdalena; ISLAS GUTIERREZ, Juan  y  GUERRA DE LA CRUZ, Vidal. Margins of commercialization of the pinion (Pinus cembroides subesp. orizabensis) in Tlaxcala, Mexico. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2011, vol.2, n.2, pp.265-279. ISSN 2007-0934.

Pinion is a non timber forest product that economically contributes to income of Santa María las Cuevas' common land holders or 'commoners' (Tlaxcala) that mainly work in seasonal agriculture of basic grains and as complementary activity they have crop and sale of this forest product. However, as well as crop and marketing are carried out in uncontrolled way, which limits obtaining more economic benefits to commoners. Aim of this study was to obtain and to systematize information about use and the marketing margins for pinion at Ejido Santa María las Cuevas, Tlaxcala in 2008. There were carried out interviews with commoners and marketers to gather information on product collection and marketing route. Marketing margins were calculated with obtained information and it was found that middlemen appropriate 77.88% of the price final consumer pays, and producer only receives 22.12%. The increase in price is due to pinion storage in the market store for final consumption (40.39%), to transformation of pinion with shell to clean pinion (27.1%) and to transport pinion with shell, from common land (or ejido) to middleman's place who cleans and selects pinion, (44.44%). The margins found suggest the possibility, for commoners, to appropriate a percentage greater than cost consumer pays, if they had an appropriate organization to enter into middle and last portion of marketing chain.

Palabras llave : Pinus cembroides; exploitation; marketing margins; pinion.
