Resumen

ACOSTA GALLEGOS, Jorge Alberto et al. Flor de Mayo Dolores: new dry bean cultivar for irrigated and rainfall conditions in Guanajuato. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2011, vol.2, n.6, pp.993-999. ISSN 2007-0934.

Flor de Mayo bean has a high demand in the Central-Western Highlands of Mexico region. The new bean cultivar Flor de Mayo Dolores (FMD) is described in this paper; it is derived from simple crosses between Flor de Mayo Anita (FMA) and FM 99016. On average of 14 trials conducted from 2008 to 2010 under irrigated and rainfed conditions in Guanajuato, the yield of FMD and FMA was quite similar (2 167 vs 2 118 kg ha-1). The average weight of 100 seeds of FMD from different localities is slightly higher than the FMA in irrigation and rainfed conditions, its seed is oval shaped; while FMA seeds are long-bladed. The average cooking time of FMD in a Mattson cooker is 95 min; while FMA is 110 min; the average protein content of the grain of both varieties is 20% based on dry weight; while the iron content of FMD was higher (p< 0.01) than the FMA with 6.1 vs 5 mg/100 g, FMD is resistant to rust races and Common Mosaic Virus (BCMV and BCMNV) present in Guanajuato, the race 292 ofanthracnose and tolerant to the common blight, halo and root rots. The FMD can be used under irrigated and rainfed conditions in the States of the Central-Western Mexico region.
