Resumen

FLORES CANALES, Ricardo Javier et al. Morphological and biochemical characters of Rosa x hybrida against Tetranychus urticae Koch in greenhouse. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2011, vol.2, n.spe3, pp.473-482. ISSN 2007-0934.

This study aimed to knowing the population behavior of the red spider mite (Tetranychus urticae Koch.) in 13 rose cultivars and, to determine the correlation between biochemical (terpenes, tannins and essential oils) and morphological characters (trichomes, glands and sheet thickness), coupled with populations of the red spider mite. In 13 cultivars of cutting-roses a population of 100 female adults per plant got released; once the red spider mite population was established, samples from 2 to 7 g of litter mass on a weekly basis were taken for 57 days. There was a biochemical analysis of the samples and the resulting information was submitted to an analysis of variance and means comparison by Tukey's method (p= 0.05). Populations of mites in 13 cultivars (expressed in mite-day-sheet) in eight sampling dates, was further correlation analysis and multiple regression of population variables. The Luna® cultivar had a higher population development with an average of 2 784.1 mites per day, followed by Gran Gala®, Verdi® and Vendela®, with a 1 472.5, 1 307 and 1 076 mites per day, respectively. On the other hand, in the Movie Star®, Emma® and Virginia® cultivars, a fewer quantity of mites was found, 3 77.5, 444.7 and 486.4, respectively. In the regression analysis, a negative correlation with the essential oils was observed and a positive one in the terpenes, leaf thickness and nitrogen content.
