Resumen

The research was conducted in a rural community in the State of Hidalgo; still retain the Otomí indigenous language, its diversity, forms of social organization and traditions. The study aims to analyse the community structure related to rural families about self-supply farming in El Botho, Ixmiquilpan, Hidalgo. The (qualitative and quantitative) non-experimental, descriptive and mixed method is used; and it rests with the ethnographic method. The study population were 20 heads of peasant families; data collection through social techniques: direct observation, participant observation; and a questionnaire. The qualitative data analysis through the interpretation of field diary and interviews with key people; the information obtained is worked with nonparametric statistics, using the Excel 2010 program and the IBM SPSS version 18. We concluded that, the householders are farmers engaged in traditional farming and harvesting of non-forest resources, mainly for self-supply, the lechuguilla carving; besides the labourers. Peasant families are organized in community activities through the system of customs, using cultural practices of Otomí ethnicity (Hñähñú); and they have managed support in the three levels of government.
