ASTUDILLO-GARCIA, Francisco y TELLEZ-AVILA, Félix. ERCP in patients with chronic liver disease: is there higher risk for complications?. Endoscopia [online]. 2019, vol.31, n.4, pp.159-162. Epub 01-Nov-2021. ISSN 2444-6483. https://doi.org/10.24875/end.m19000173.
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) has become an endoscopic procedure mainly with therapeutics goals. The number of indications and high-rate success make that the procedure more and more requested every day. There are studies that support that patients with chronic liver diseases have a higher frequency of bile duct pathologies with needing for ERCP. Since ERCP is an invasive procedure that is not free of complications, there has always been a concern that in patients with cirrhosis the frequency of complications associated with ERCP is greater than that occurred in the general population. This paper is aimed at reviewing the evidence in this regard.
