DEPETRIS, Carolina. Self-knowledge: autobiography, fiction, nature and mysticism in The reveries of the solitary walker. Inter disciplina [online]. 2023, vol.11, n.30, pp.67-88. Epub 01-Sep-2023. ISSN 2448-5705. https://doi.org/10.22201/ceiich.24485705e.2023.30.85568.
This paper analyses the problem of self-knowledge in the philosophy of Jean-Jacques Rousseau. This is accomplished through four topics in Reveries of the solitary walker: autobiography, fiction, pastoral tradition and mysticism. The problem of self-knowledge responds to Rousseau’s basic philosophical concern: to learn what human being is. From these four starting points, then, the aim is to explore the possibilities and limitations of such knowledge.
