RODRIGUEZ BUSTAMANTE, Jair Obed. Santiguando with deer horn: An approach to the ritual of Santiguador. An. antropol. [online]. 2021, vol.55, n.2, pp.191-204.  Epub 16-Mayo-2022. ISSN 2448-6221.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iia.24486221e.2021.78132.

This article is part of a set of research carried out by the author about the santiguador, a ritual specialist present in the traditional populations of Lambayeque region in Peru that unlike the “maestro curandero” or the “partera”, has not be given the due attention and study. During the interviews carried out to santiguadores from different towns in Lambayeque region, the antecedent of the use of the deer antler by this ritual specialist had not been recorded, unlike the use of it by master healers or shamans. For that reason, this research is based on the interview to doña Santos Benavides, who used for the ritual of the santiguador a deer antler. Besides, the presence of the deer and the use of its ornaments in the archaeological, ethnohistorical an ethnographic record is contextualized given special attention to the north coast of Peruvian territory. This will allow the reader to approach the understanding of the santiguador ritual. The research carried out regarding ritual specialist-also named specialists in traditional medicine, especially about the santiguador, are of big importance due to the lost or the retreat of the presence of this special parsonage from the traditional populations, causing its practices and rituals to be in the process of retreat of disappearance. In sum, this research reopen a study about the ritual specialist in the traditional populations in Lambayeque region, a theme that is not finished yet, showing interest in a territory that requires more efforts in this field of research.
