Resumen

RUIZ NAPOLES, Pablo; CASTANEDA LEON, Javier  y  MORENO REYES, Eduardo. Greenhouse gas emissions in the Mexican economy and mitigation policies, 2020-2030. El trimestre econ [online]. 2023, vol.90, n.358, pp.531-551.  Epub 09-Jun-2023. ISSN 2448-718X.  https://doi.org/10.20430/ete.v90i358.1662.

In this paper, we built an input-output environmental model for the Mexican economy to estimate the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions produced by this economy to the year 2030 and to explore the possibilities for their reduction. The model shows how innovative technologies applied in selected subsectors of the economy might reduce total emissions, through their direct and indirect effects on other sectors. We used the model to calculate two trajectories: one called “business as usual” and another that results from simulating a technological change in selected sectors. We conclude from the results that technological change, even limited to a few sectors, tends to produce important beneficial effects in terms of GHG reduction.
