Resumen

PITTALUGA, Mariana. The stigma of the Gothic. Beauty and ugliness of an alphabet. Zincografía [online]. 2018, vol.2, n.4, pp.95-112.  Epub 09-Oct-2020. ISSN 2448-8437.  https://doi.org/10.32870/zcr.v0i4.44.

The history of the Gothic alphabet makes it clear that a tension of power and interests influenced the shape of the alphabet and its perception. Depending on the political context, the Gothic alphabet enjoyed periods in which it was perceived as beautiful or ugly. It is interesting to observe how, although its morphology has basically been the same from its origin, the perception that we have had of it has followed a pendular movement that goes from the hegemony to the counterhegemony, from the beautiful to the ugly and from the Apollonian to the the Dionysian in different historical periods.

Palabras llave : gothic; alphabet; aesthetic; beautiful; ugly.
