AZUARA-NEGRETE, Néstor D. et al. Papillary thiroid cancer masking ganglionar tuberculosis. Case report and literature review. Gac. mex. oncol. [online]. 2023, vol.22, suppl.1, pp.28-31. Epub 11-Sep-2023. ISSN 2565-005X. https://doi.org/10.24875/j.gamo.22000070.
Tuberculous lymphadenitis is usually indistinguishable from metastatic forms of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). A 31-year-old man assessed for cervical lymphadenopathies with a TI-RADS (Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System) 5 ultrasound report of a thyroid nodule, with positive fine-needle aspiration biopsy for PTC. Thyroidectomy with lymph node resection was performed with report of lymph node with a result negative for metastasis, positive Ziehl-Neelsen. Antituberculous management is started. The typical presentation of cervical tuberculous lymphadenitis has features in common with metastatic PTC nodes. Cervical lymphadenopathy in a patient with a PTC does not always indicate metastatic spread of the disease.
