BECERRIL, David Alejandro  y  LEY GARCIA, Judith. Characterization of the lifestyle based on the consumption of electrical energy and the pro-environmental practices of households in the city of Mexicali, B.C. Rev. cienc. tecnol. [online]. 2022, vol.5, n.1, e206.  Epub 14-Ago-2023. ISSN 2594-1925.  https://doi.org/10.37636/recit.v5n1e206.

The states of the northern border of Mexico stand out for their high levels of electricity consumption, especially those located in arid areas where there is a need to use air conditioning devices, it's remarkable that in some cases an inhabitant of this area consumes as much energy in a summer month as the rest of the country's users consume in a year, such is the case of the city of Mexicali, B.C. which presents a unique and complex structure of electricity consumption product of aspects related to its border and climate context that is reflected in an economic, social and environmental impact product of the way in which electricity is consumed, especially in the months of summer. Therefore, it is important to investigate ways to reduce electricity consumption in the city. As a response to the problem, some studies have been developed to observe the phenomenon from two perspectives, one related to electronic devices and the other related to users, from this perspective, stand out studies have indicated that there is a clear relationship between consumption of electrical energy, pro-environmental practices, and the lifestyles, in a such a way that this work focuses on this aspect. To achieve this, a quantitative approach was used through a questionnaire applied to 273 homes in Mexicali. Among the main results, it was found that there are three types of lifestyles. In each lifestyle, there is a similar but differentiated interest both in saving electricity and in pro-environmental practices. User behavior when using electrical devices is key to energy-saving practices in homes. There is a great lack of knowledge about electricity consumption and few participation in electricity-saving programs in the households analyzed.
