Resumen

FERNANDEZ FERNANDEZ, Íñigo. A case study: El Correo Español as a means of information about the Asturian colony in Mexico (1889-1900). Rev. panam. comun. [online]. 2021, vol.3, n.2, pp.72-85.  Epub 17-Ene-2022. ISSN 2683-2208.  https://doi.org/10.21555/rpc.vi2.2440.

The Porfiriato was a period in which the migration of Spaniards increased and, within it, Asturians became the majority group. In this context, El Correo Español served as the official information organ of the Hispanic colony that settled in Mexico in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, although in the particular case of those from the Principality, it was not only a mere media, but also helped to build a common vision of their region on both sides of the Atlantic. To this end, the publication had an agenda in which the news it favored dealt with the railroad, mining and ports, three economic axes that were thriving in the European region, as well as in Mexico, and that besides being part of a modernization process, also fulfilled an enlightened desire to end the isolation that had characterized Asturias thanks to its peculiar geography.
