ZAMORANO-ROJAS, Alma Delia; ROMERO-DELGADO, Claudia Ivett y CAMACHO-GOMEZ, María del Carmen. A New Perspective of Elder People Through Mexican Films. Rev. panam. comun. [online]. 2022, vol.4, n.1, pp.174-190. Epub 27-Jun-2022. ISSN 2683-2208. https://doi.org/10.21555/rpc.v4i1.2560.
The representation of old age in Mexican cinema is the starting point to analyze the false stereotypes that people have today, about the elderly. Different cultures gave the elderly respect and recognition but it has been disappearing and now old people is considered useless for working or a burden for families, ignoring and discriminating them.
This research compares two films: Por si no te vuelvo a ver (Juan Pablo Villaseñor, 1997) and En el último trago (Jack Zagha Kababie, 2015). These movies present a different perspective in which the protagonists find enough motivation to fulfill a goal and to face challenges and problems to achieve it. In the end a personal transformation takes place allowing them to enjoy their age and live fully.
