The Casa de Salud para Niños of San Luis Potosí, which was renamed as Hospital Infantil, was one of the first institutions that laid the foundations of pediatric care in Mexico and was founded thanks to Dr. Miguel Otero y Arce. The evolution of this institution is described in this chronicle from its inauguration on April 21, 1893 until its closure. This hospital had two hospitalization rooms with 20 beds each, an operating room, a pharmacy, an office, rooms for the nursing staff, bathrooms, a kitchen, a contagious disease ward, a department for blind children, as well as a chicken coop and stable. The Anales del Hospital Infantil de San Luis Potosí journal was published here. Economic problems led to its transformation into the Hospicio para Niños y Ancianos in 1900. In 1910 it was called the Hospital Diocesano San Carlos Borromeo, and by 1915 it became the Hospital “Dr. Miguel Otero”, to finally become the Hospital Central de San Luis Potosí “Dr. Ignacio Morones Prieto”, in 1947.
