Resumen

NEGRIN DA SILVA, Diana. Makuyeika: la que anda en muchas partes. Cuicuilco [online]. 2015, vol.22, n.62, pp.37-59. ISSN 0185-1659.

Despite the growing urban indigenous population, the popular and academic imaginary still continues to focus on the indigenous within marginalized geographic areas, whether it be in the countryside or the city. Within this framework, the presence of indigenous university students and indigenous professionals in Mexican cities remains a little recognized fact by the governmental agencies, the academic world and civil society. Based on an ethnographic study of the experiences of young Wixaritari (Huichols) who live, study and work, in Tepic and Guadalajara, this article analyzes the tensions between the expectations, both outdated and racialist, that delimit indigenous authenticity and the increasing geographical heterogeneity, student culture, and the Wixaritari professionals.

Palabras llave : wixarika people; indigenous students; multiculturalism; right to live in the city; activism.
