SOLIS DOMINGUEZ, Daniel y MARTINEZ LOZANO, Consuelo Patricia. Género, sexualidad y cuerpo. Campo juvenil y jóvenes universitarios indígenas de San Luis Potosí, México. Cuicuilco [online]. 2015, vol.22, n.62, pp.121-148. ISSN 0185-1659.
This paper provides an analysis of the discursive practices related to the sociocultural construction and perception of gender, sexuality and body, expressed by young male and female Nahuas university students, from the Huasteca Potosina region of Mexico. This document highlights the relevance of empirically and theoretically identifying a specific field related to youth issues, in which the different sociocultural aspects of being and becoming a young person converge within a determined society. Moreover, given the lack of research on indigenous youth regarding gender issues, this paper also proposes joint disciplinary fields: the gender perspective in relation to ethnicity and youth studies. It concludes that school, or more precisely the university environment, establishes a social space for young people, which within the indigenous communities and society in general, distinguishes and defines a population; furthermore, we can also observe that both male and female Nahuas University students strengthen the dominant models of gender, sexuality and body, though, at the same time, they elaborate critical reflections that tend to transform the said models. This shows a dynamic field of youth in transformation. This is to say, it is a field of youth influenced by multiple ways of being young, which position themselves and relate to each other in terms of conflict and exclusion, but also in terms of consensus and identification.
