COLOMBO, Sandra y ANGELIS, Ignacio de. The People’s Republic of China and the United States: The Technological Scientific Revolution and Technological Dispute in the 21st Century. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2021, vol.66, n.243, pp.163-189. Epub 31-Ene-2022. ISSN 0185-1918. https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.2448492xe.2021.243.72582.
Supporting the hypothesis of the hegemonic transition characterized by the scenario of the dispute with the United States, the article analyzes the emergence of the People’s Republic of China as an international economic power. First, the conceptual framework is presented within the evolutionary theory of technology revolutions for the interpretation of the current stage of a global transformation. Secondly, the paper advances on the analysis of the Chinese trajectory towards consolidation as the protagonist of the international system reviewing the empirical path through the main scientific and technological indicators that explain its rise. In this context, its commercial dispute with the United States is analyzed as an expression of the broad conflict over the appropriation of the benefits of the current technological revolution. Lastly, the characterization of the uncertainty scenario regarding the institutionality of the new global economic order is presented.
