CAMPOS PEREZ, Lara. The personified Republic. The Porfirian national holiday of 2th of April (1900-1911). Estud. hist. mod. contemp. Mex [online]. 2016, n.51, pp.53-71. ISSN 0185-2620. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ehmcm.2015.12.001.
This article studies the 2th of April commemoration during the last years of Porfirio Díaz government (1900-1911). The aim of this study is twofold: first, to understand and analyze some aspects of the ritual practices of politics during those years; and, second, to clarify the meanings identified with this historical event: the idea of Republic. To understand the meaning that was given officially to the concept, we study the commemoration ceremonies, both in its political ritual aspect and in its speech point of view; but the speeches has been analyzed not only the officers, but also the response that they received from the opposition newspaper of Díaz regimen. The aim is to propose an approach to the discussions on the idea of Republic in Mexico in the early twentieth century from the cultural history of politics.
