SCHIFTER, Liliana y ACEVES, Patricia. Pharmacists and chemistry in Mexico (1903-1919): Practices, actors and sites. Estud. hist. mod. contemp. Mex [online]. 2016, n.51, pp.72-92. ISSN 0185-2620. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ehmcm.2016.02.003.
This investigation analyzes, for the first time, the main characteristics of the development of chemistry in Mexico during the first two decades of the 20th century. During this period, many activities related to chemistry such as teaching, research and public and private services were mainly performed by pharmacists who graduated from the National School of Medicine in Mexico City. These pharmacists bonded in an academic, professional and social network and negotiated the necessary initiatives for the opening of the new spaces where chemistry took place, was taught, practiced and professionalized. For this reason they were recognized as the first Mexican chemists.
