This work aims to explain the Spanish Royalist Army raids into Lima between 1821 and 1824. Its purpose is to contribute to the reflection on the importance of this city for the royalists after their departure to the southern Andes in 1821. Based on archive documents and newspapers, the importance of Lima for the political control of Peru is analyzed. Secondly, the circumstances and the social, economic, and political effects of each of these military incursions are explained. Finally, the difficulties of the independent government in keeping the city safe are examined in relation to the strategies implemented by Simón Bolívar since his arrival in Peru in 1823 until the Spaniards surrender in the castles of Callao in 1826.
